LEGAL DISCLAIMER

International Editorial Protection & Press Freedom Commitment

All international editions of L’ÉPOQUE — including but not limited to L’ÉPOQUE PARIS, L'ÉPOQUE ITALIA, L'ÉPOQUE USA, L'ÉPOQUE GREECE, L'ÉPOQUE MONACO and L'ÉPOQUE HONG KONG, and any digital or print subsidiaries — are fully conceived, written, verified and published by the central editorial board of L’ÉPOQUE, headquartered in Paris, France. All editorial operations, authorial decisions, fact-checking processes and publication approvals fall exclusively under the legal jurisdiction of the French Republic and the supranational protection of the European Union.

L’ÉPOQUE upholds an uncompromising commitment to the freedom of the press, the protection of journalistic sources, and the right to publish content of public interest — even in cases where such content challenges foreign governments or political regimes.

In full compliance with:

  • the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union,

  • the European Convention on Human Rights (Article 10), and

  • the French Law on the Freedom of the Press of 29 July 1881,

L’ÉPOQUE asserts that no foreign legislation, decree or extraterritorial request will be recognized or actioned if it infringes upon the foundational legal principles of free expression, press independence, and the dignity of authorship.

On Authorship & Editorial Attribution

Articles published under a pseudonym, or attributed to “The Editorial Team” (e.g. L’ÉPOQUE HONG KONG Editorial Board), are the result of deliberate protective editorial choices. This applies in cases where contributors, reporters or correspondents are exposed to risk of censorship, surveillance, retaliation, or legal persecution in their countries of origin or activity. These formats of authorship serve to guarantee safety while maintaining full editorial integrity.

The Editor-in-Chief and Director of Publication of L’ÉPOQUE assume legal responsibility within the exclusive framework of French and European law. Any attempt by non-European authorities to initiate extraterritorial legal action — whether civil or criminal — against the publication, its leadership or its contributors, will be considered illegitimate and unenforceable under EU law.

On Editorial Sovereignty

All articles published by L’ÉPOQUE, in any language or territory, are the expression of an independent editorial voice. They may include critiques of authoritarian policies, legal systems, or public institutions, always in the context of rigorous journalistic standards and public interest.

L’ÉPOQUE refuses any form of intimidation, pressure, or censorship — whether diplomatic, legal, algorithmic, or commercial — and will not comply with any form of extraterritorial repression that contradicts European democratic values.

Final Declaration

L’ÉPOQUE affirms the universal and inalienable right of individuals and institutions to seek, receive and impart information freely. In a world where boundaries are increasingly used as instruments of fear, our mission remains borderless: to document truth, to question power, and to defend freedom — with dignity, with courage, and with the written word.
